lindsey napela berg

“Cuore” is the Italian word for heart, but for Lindsey Napela Berg it is more than a word it’s a lifestyle. Cuore is PASSION, DETERMINATION and INTENSITY in every aspect of life. Cuore will inspire you to chase your dreams, smile in the face of defeat and live each day to the fullest with no doubts and no regrets.’
Berg, a native of Hawaii, is a three-time Olympic volleyball player who started her Olympic journey in 2003. Berg has made appearances at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and led team USA to silver medals in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012. When not with Team USA, Berg has spent seven years playing professionally overseas. Berg has spent the majority of her time playing in Italy in the Italian Serie A League and most recently played with Fenerbahce in Istanbul, Turkey.
Berg’s exploits aren’t limited to the volleyball court. She is self-proclaimed fashion junkie, who sees fashion as art — a unique expression of one’s personality.
Passion, Determination and Heart. Three words which Lindsey Napela Berg lives each day.

Cuore Camp
As most of you know I have been starting to do camps during my year off from playing. In May I did a college setter’s camp in Austin, Texas which included some of the best setters in the college game. In December I decided to do a camp for the younger ladies and included all skills as well. The camp was the first weekend in December at Champions Hall in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Thank you to Kelly and Ryan Stuntz for having their Vital Volleyball Club be the host sponsor. The camp was a complete success (other than the freezing conditions in the gym). The girls not only got a lot of repetitions, but had the opportunity to listen to Stacy Sykora (Three-time Olympian & Silver Medalist) & I tell our stories, inspire & share our knowledge. My goal of the camp was to make a difference in these girl’s lives and I am pretty sure I accomplished that. I look forward to doing more camps in the future and also offering experiences sponsored by my Foundation Cuore Squared. Please sign up for my newsletter if you would be interesting in hearing about future camp and contact me if you are interested in hearing about my Foundation Cuore Squared. Big thanks to Stacy Sykora, Stephen McCarthy, Stephanie Hagen-Chapek, Erin Horn, Carrie Noble-O’keefe, Ariana Cecka, Wil Gutierrez, Rebecca Zenefski, Will Harris, Erin Lindsey, Harold Lindsey, Ryan Stuntz, Ken Konecki, Champions Hall, and everyone else that made this camp a success. #cuore
Summer 2013
USA Volleyball Summer Recap
Even though I only trained with the USA National team for a week this summer, I stayed very close to them throughout the summer. Here is a recap of the amazing 2013 summer season that they had.
For the second straight year we captured Gold at the Pan Am Cup defeating The Dominican Republic in the final match. The MVP award and Best Server award went to Nicole Fawcett while Megan Hodge was selected as the Best Spiker and Kayla Banwarth was selected as Best Receiver. It was a great start to the summer and set the tone for the rest of the summer. Next up was the new USA Volleyball Cup series matches against Japan. I’m so excited that Karch Kiraly has implemented this into our schedule. In the past year’s we had very little opportunity to play in front of our own crowd in the USA and this Volleyball Cup will give us the opportunity to do so each summer. We participated in three matches against Japan in three different locations in Southern California. Here were the results.
U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team defeats Japan 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23 at RIMAC Arena on the campus of UC-San Diego in San Diego, Calif.
U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team win its second consecutive USA Volleyball Cup match over Japan 25-17, 26-24, 18-25, 25-20 in front of 3,500 fans at the Walter Pyramid on the campus of Long Beach State University in Long Beach, Calif.
U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team to a 25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 23-25, 15-10 victory over Japan in the final match of the USA Volleyball Cup in front of a standing-room only crowd of 2,000 fans at the JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
Following the Volleyball Cup is the dreaded four to five weeks of the World Grand Prix tournament. I say dreaded not to sound negative, but it is a very long tournament with an extremely high number of matches. Here how USA did this year…
Pool A – Campinas, Brazil
Aug. 2: United States def. Russia 25-20, 17-25, 25-21, 25-12
Aug. 3: United States def. Poland 25-22, 25-23, 25-16
Aug. 4: Brazil def. United States 17-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-20
Pool F – Belgrade, Serbia
Aug. 9: United States def. Algeria 25-12, 25-15, 25-11
Aug. 10: United States def. Netherlands 25-20, 25-16, 25-12
Aug. 11: United States def. Serbia 25-14, 22-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-12

Aug. 31: Italy def. United States 19-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 16-14
Sept. 1: United States def. Japan 17-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-17, 15-12
It was a great start at Grand Prix to make it into the Final round. Unfortunately, the final round did not go as planned, but the positives were in the lessons learned. Congrats to Alisha Glass earning the Best Setter award.
No time to rest it was time to defend our NORCECA crown in Omaha, Nebraska. This was an exciting summer knowing again we would get to play in front of a USA crowd. The girls were ready for this challenge of defending our NORCEA crown and qualifying for the Grand Champions Cup in Japan this coming November. Did we do it??

Paris Fashion Week
A few weeks back I had an opportunity to go to Paris Fashion week and attend some shows, parties, and just live life in Paris. Here are some of the outfits that I wore…
Oct 27
- A Touch of Green – Emerald Green is the new accent color. Try it out in your fall outfit
- Menswear – It’s the new Womenswear
- Jacket that goes with everything – Wear it normal or on top of shoulders for a twist
- My pick: Helmut Lang boyfriend blazer
- Leather Pants
- Navy – Pair it with black or brights
- Statement Handbag
- Cherry lip
- Biker Jacket – Here are two different looks. Pencil skirt and pointy toe pump, or skinny jean and pointed toe flat for the tomboy look. Rock it over everything
What is Fashion-It’s about defining a moment.
Fall is my favorite season to dress. If you think about it…that is crazy. An island girl that wore t-shirts and surf shorts, long boarded before school, and played beach volleyball! How is it possible that fall clothes are my favorite? It might have to do with going to college in Minnesota and finally having to own jackets or it could be the years training in Colorado Springs, Colo., and having to walk to the gym in the cold or it could be the seven years playing in Italy and seeing some of the best fashion in the world. Whatever it may be, I love fall fashion. Let’s check out the hottest fall fashion trends for this fall. Remember — layers are fun, show your style and be you. Tackle your day with confidence.
The season is full of contradictions and opposites that attract, but delight. Fashion makes the rules and breaks the rules. Rock ‘n roll, pretty meets punk, grunge goes glam is what fall and winter are all about!
Have fun this Fall and winter. Remember it is your style. You can wear something new or five seasons ago, but as long as you rock it with confidence you will turn heads!
Send me pictures of your favorite Fall/Winter fashions and I’ll post them on my site.
Happy dressing…

Fashion Friday
Hey y’all! I wanted to share with you all my favorite outfit from my Minnesota trip.
Luckily it wasn’t freezing yet (thankfully:) So here I am wearing a Costume National dress which is covered by a Helmut Lang Boyfriend Blazer. I’ve paired this outfit with Celine thigh high boots and a Louis Vuitton Leopard scarf. Accessorized with a Valentino Camouflage clutch and a whole lot of gold jewelry (Channeling my inner Trinidad James) What do you guys think?

Sneaks and Solos
I had so much fun being in Los Angeles for the holidays. It was a new experience getting to go to all of these holiday parties and I even decided to have one on my own. I have been trying to always give back in everything that I am doing these days so I included that in my holiday party as well. The party’s theme was ‘Sneaks & Solos’. Everyone had to bring at least one pair of new or old sneakers to get into the party and then I gave them two red Solo cups — one to decorate and one to drink out of. I had about 40-50 gorgeous friends at my loft. We mixed art, music, giving back & fun all together. It was amazing and can’t wait to do it again. Check out these amazing pictures!
Happy (late) Holidays

NCAA Volleyball Final Four & AVCA Coaches Convention December 18-21 Seattle, Washington
One of the perks of being home and not playing overseas is I get to be involved in a lot more
things. Thanks to USA Volleyball, I got to attend the NCAA Final Four in Seattle, Washington. I was so excited for multiple reasons. First of all, I have not been to Seattle since I was little so I was excited to see all of the sites. Second, I was going to get to see my teammates Stacy Sykora, Tama Miyashiro, Courtney Thompson, my sister Erin Lindsey and all of the other fun volleyball people. Third, I was going to get to interact with fans, sign autographs and hopefully make a few days, and of course I was going to get to see some good volleyball. It was such a great few days. I smiled, laughed, inspired, and gave a lot of hugs in those days. Thank you USA Volleyball for letting me continue to touch lives through the sport. Congratulations to all four teams that competed and to all of the All-Americans and coaches that were honored that weekend.
Until next time Seattle…

- Getting honored for my 2012 Olympic silver medal from the London games and my induction into the University of Minnesota Hall of Fame
As you guys know I am having my first big camp in Minnesota in a couple weeks. Putting together a camp takes a lot of work, so I knew I had to go to Minnesota and promote it. With the camp coming up it was time for me to get back to Minneapolis where I spent four very important years of my life. It was a trip packed with appearances, interviews, football games, volleyball games, and fun.
While I was there the University of Minnesota decided to honor me at the volleyball game vs. Nebraska. It was such an incredible atmosphere. I got to do autographs and take pictures with the fans before the game and after the first set they brought me to center court in from of a sold out crowd of almost 6,000 people and honored me for my silver medal from the London 2012 Olympics and my Hall of Fame honor that I received from the University last September. It was great to be back and feel the support once again. Well, the support hasn’t stopped, my Minnesota family has followed me throughout my career and have continued to support me and I thank you for that. Check out the other pictures and fun things I did during my trip. It was definitely one to remember.
